Music - Rock ‘n’ Pop – The Strutters Rhythm and Blues Band
This group is only open to current members of Belper & District u3a.
With the continuing success of Music Makers, it is apparent there is scope for another similar group. There’s a lot of folks in the u3a who are interested in music, so we’re on to it with a number of new ideas and one immediate initiative we are taking is to start a second group.
The essence of this new group is to develop into a group that goes out to perform, purely for the fun of it.
It’s going to be about rock and pop and disco and blues, and whatever else new members bring. But essentially, it’s those tunes on the car radio that we all tap along to on the steering wheel. You can spot this behaviour at most red traffic lights near you.
The idea is to build a songbook of popular tunes that we’d like to play and to get them into decent enough shape so that we’re brave/foolish enough to stand up and play them for others.
And then we might do a few charity dos, parties, garden fêtes, for friends and family, you know the sort of thing. No money will change hands. This is voluntary tunes to chase away the blues.
There are no printed tour t-shirts, (who knows, we might have one after a couple of gigs), no merch, Instagram account or roadies, just fun music for others to enjoy.
We are likely to meet fortnightly at Strutts and we’ll set a suitable evening when we have a quorum of members.
If you play to a reasonable standard, and like the idea of a fun group, please get in touch for a chat with the band. Thus far, we have a drummer, and one or two potentials, but he’s feeling a little soulless sitting on stage by himself.
And if you are not ready for the bright lights and stadium tours yet, then take a look at our Music Makers group where you will find a warm
welcome and a rich mix of musical abilities and genres.
In the first instance, please contact the Group Co-ordinator via the blue link above.
