HOW TO JOIN THE u3a
N.B. IF JOINING IN MARCH 2026 - PLEASE SEND APPLICATION FORM (POST OR EMAIL) TO THE TREASURER, (NOT TO THE NEW MEMBERS’ COORDINATOR as directed on the form ). Please contact the Treasurer if you need to request the postal address.
- Download the appropriate Membership Application form from the links below, print it out and complete. For guidance on which application form to use see 'Membership Classes' further down this page.
- Application form for those currently not in any u3a to join Belper u3a as a Full Member
- Application form for existing members of another u3a to join Belper u3a as an Associate Member
- If you are a returning member, please write on the form the year when you were last a member
- Post the completed application form, together with your cheque or postal order if paying by that means, to the address on the form. Alternatively, you can bring them both to one of our monthly u3a meetings (usually on 1st Friday of each month from 10:00am-12:00, at the Strutts Centre - see Events Page for details) and hand them in at the Membership table or to any member of the Executive Committee present.
- While we endeavour to deal with applications as quickly as possible, there may be a delay in processing at times.
If you do not have access to a printer, paper copies of the Membership Application Forms are available either:-
- from the u3a Membership Desk at any of our monthly meetings.
- from Belper Library Help Desk (your local library branch may be willing to print off a copy for you).
- by post - by sending a request to the New Members Co-ordinator at the address on the application form -please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope for receipt of the form.
Payment by bank transfer, cheque or postal order only please.
Cheques/postal orders should be made payable to Belper & District U3A.
NB When paying by Bank Transfer - in the reference field, please enter as much of your Surname & Forename as possible and follow the instructions on the application form.
Please do NOT send cash.
Please note: our membership year runs from 1st January to 31st December each year, with a reduction in the fee payable if you join part way through a year - see the Membership Application form for the rates for the current year.
If you join part way through any year, you will need to renew your membership in the following January.
One last important thing to note- please check the date on the membership application form you are using is for the current year, as some of the details change year by year. The appropriate application form is always available as a download from this page.
MEMBERSHIP CLASSES
Full Membership - if you do not belong to any other u3a, this is the class of membership you should apply for.
Associate Membership - if you are a current member of another u3a you are eligible to join Belper & District u3a as an Associate Member. There is a reduced fee payable for this as your home u3a will be responsible for paying the annual fee to the national u3a on your behalf. Please remember to put the name of your home u3a and your Membership number in that u3a on the form.
GIFT AID
The New Membership Application form includes an optional Gift Aid Declaration - for more information about how this helps us keep our annual membership fees low, please see the Gift Aid page.
