  • Meeting details - 1st Thurs each month in members’ homes
  • Any costs - No
  • Who it will suit - Anyone who enjoys a wide variety of reading for pleasure
  • Any particular materials/equipment required - No
  • Examples of activities, past or planned - We recently enjoyed “Black Diamonds” by Catherine Bailey, an extraordinary true story of the rise and fall of an aristocratic family whose wealth was built on Yorkshire coal-mining.
  • What the group is aiming to do - Read and discuss various fiction and non-fiction books.

Loans are arranged by choosing from a list supplied by Belper Library. As they are not always able to supply the selected books, this has resulted in the group reading and enjoying things they wouldn't normally choose.

After reading 'Sons and Lovers'’ the group visited DH Lawrence's birthplace in Eastwood.

A successful session discussing poems has been held and the group is going to look at the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy, the new poet Laureate.
