Walking - Evening Walks

Status:Active, open to new members
Co-ordinator:
When: Fortnightly on Tuesday evenings 6:00 pm-8:00 pm
Apr - Sept (when evenings light enough)
Venue: Outdoors, various locations

This group is open to current members of Belper & District u3a.

We are a social walking group and members take turns in leading relatively gentle walks of around 3-4 miles (can be up to a maximum of 5 miles in easy conditions).

We aim to enjoy the scenery and each others company while we walk and at the end of the walks we may go for a drink together.

During the season, (April - September, when it is light enough to walk safely) the walks take place fortnightly (weather permitting) on Tuesday evenings, starting at 6pm and last for around 1.5 - 2 hours.

We organise a planning/social get together in February or March, to agree a progamme of walks and walk leaders ready for the start of the season, so if you would like to join us for the 2026 season please get in touch - especially if you know some good evening walks!

Our programme of walks for the 2025 season took us to Lea Green, Darley Abbey, Heage, Ripley, Chevin Woods, Ambergate Canal, Shining Cliff Woods, Allestree Park, Eaton Bank, Codnor Park Reservoir and Belper. We learned lots of fascinating facts from the walk leaders about the places we visited along the way.

The 2026 season has now started and we will be walking fortnightly starting 14th April 2026.

We have welcomed quite a few new members during our closed season and have now had to close the group list for the time being.
However if you are interested in joining this group and would like to join the waiting list, please contact the group co-ordinator, by clicking on the blue link above.

Photos from our walks

The photo collections below are from three of our past walks - the first is a circular walk from Straws Bridge Car Park, up to Manor Floods then along the Nutbrook Trail to the Beauty Spot and Kirk Hallam Lake. The second is a walk around Shipley Country Park and the third is a circular walk from Codnor Market Place up to Codnor Castle.
